If you fancy a drink or a cocktail and a light meal or exquisite dish, Madrid is THE PLACE TO BE. Madrid is inundated with rooftop bars - everywhere you go, there is one on top of every hotel, house or building ...
While I was staying in Madrid, I loved to always try a new rooftop bar every time we went out.
The options are broad, the top-location is definitely Gran Vía!
1. Riu Hotel Plaza Espana Rooftop
This huge and two-floor 360° rooftop affords you to feel like you´re on top of the world- on top of Madrid. From there, you can see the entire city ranging from Gran Vìa to the Royal Palace, the Cathedral Almudena, the Temple of Debod, the skyscrapers in the financial district and the mountains in the background.
We went there just before the sunset and the view was spectacular. It left us speechless.
!This rooftop offers a balcony made out of glass which is nothing for people who are afraid of heights since you are only walking on glass underneath you...
!Access to the rooftop costs $30!
Drinks are pricey, on the second last floor there is an elegant restaurant where you can eat high-class food with an astonishing view since there are floor to ceiling windows.
2. Picalagartos Sky Bar and Restaurant
My favorite Rooftop if you want to enjoy an immaculate view of Gran Vía.
It is located right in Gran Vía and you can overlook the street from above until the Schweppes building. - Definitely a once in a lifetime view!
(and you are right next to the incredible Telefónica building!)
It is free but you might have to wait in line for 30-90min...
Drinks and tapas fairly costly but worth it!
Free access which is really rare given the view this bar offers...
3. Ella Sky Bar
This Rooftop is located right across the Plaza de Callao and provides a breathtaking view on the square as well as the Opera and Royal Palace of Madrid.
It has two sides, one facing Gran Vía, the other one facing towards the business district with its four famous skyscrapers (the so called "Cuatro Torres").
Drinks are more affordable with a relaxing atmosphere and music.
Entrance costs $15 but includes one cocktail or two glasses of wine.
4. Jardines de Sabatini Rooftop Bar
This bar is a hidden gem as you can barely see it from the street.
It is located on top a hotel called "Jardines de Sabatini apartosuites" and is right next to the famous sabatini gardens, a royal garden and flower complex.
It offers a phenomenal view to the royal palace of Madrid without any obstacles or people in the way.
Enjoy a wide range of (non-) alcoholic drinks and snacks right across the palace!
Definitely a must-do for me!
Access is free.
Did you try one of them, and if so, did you like it?
Which one of those is your favorite?
